Laboratory Construction

Our firm provided preconstruction and construction services for Regeneron’s newest lab facility on their Tarrytown campus. The scope of work included:

  • renovations to existing spaces
  • construction of an interconnecting bridge and enclosure
  • fit-out of a new 136,000sf building encompassing laboratories, clean rooms, offices, and building infrastructure

A biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes medicines, Regeneron was in need of a construction manager sensitive to the specific requirements of laboratory construction. Over 65% of the building consists of laboratory and lab support spaces, including:

  • seven tissue culture rooms
  • two proteomics labs
  • one radio isotopes lab
  • six FACS labs
  • 15 expansion labs
  • 226 open work stations

Specialized Mechanical Systems

With over 109,000sf biology lab fit-out over three floors, the 35,000sf mechanical penthouse was painstakingly constructed. The mechanical penthouse is supporting laboratories consisting of tissue culture, robotics, proteomics semi-clean and clean rooms, in addition to lab support rooms including three working cold and two cold storage rooms, and cryogenic areas (three freezer farms), lab gas bulk storage, gel prep areas, dark rooms, and autoclave area/glass wash rooms. Mechanical system construction also included:

  • carbon dioxide and nitrogen bulk storage area
  • 1,000kW emergency generator, and associated exterior site work
  • three boilers and five air handling units
  • upgrade of 80 tons of cooling to 200 tons of cooling
  • new BMS control system
  • installation of vacuum, compressed air, and CO2 systems
  • a reverse osmosis water system for purified water
