Standing Ovation for the Construction
The 469,000sf, four-story Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts provides the city with both a concert hall and a multi-use theater including:
- Verizon Hall, the 101,000sf, cello-shaped, concert hall seats 2,500. The hall hosts live performances and has the ability to broadcast and record. Because of a series specialty finishes used to adjust the acoustics, the Center delivers the lowest possible noise level count of N-1
- Perelman Theater, a turntable stage transforms the 27,000sf Perelman Recital Hall into a theater seating 650 people
- Innovation Studio, is a 150-seat theater with revolving stage that changes the configuration and allows the space to be flexible
- a steel barrel vault roof sits atop the cantilevered floor decks of the fourth level
- 12,000sf glass walls at each end, made up of more than 500 panes of glass
- a spacious lobby, cafe, full banqueting kitchen, arts education facility, gift shop, third-floor restaurant and rooftop garden
Virtualization and 3D Modeling
Assure Quality
The approach to this project was close collaboration and a truly integrated project delivery model. With the design incomplete at the start of construction, it was essential the entire team work together and be engaged through the entire process.
Virtualization was utilized for the construction of the cello-shaped hall. The concrete slabs, wood veneer panels and railings needed to perfectly fit together to complete the unique shape. Subcontractors were trained on how to assemble this unusual structure with daily oversight from our team.
