Constructing a New Sports Center
Our firm managed construction of the new 47,000sf Campbell Sports Center, the gateway to the Baker Athletic Complex for Columbia University. The new facility includes:
- 120-person auditorium
- 6,000sf strength and conditioning center
- team rooms
- coaches’ offices
- meeting and conference rooms
- student-athlete lounge area
- study area
The project is seeking LEED Silver certification and BIM was utilized for clash detection and coordination. It was the first significant project undertaken by the University utilizing this technology, which will ultimately be used to manage and maintain the facility.
Preconstruction Planning
During the two-year preconstruction phase, our team worked with Columbia University and its design team to help Columbia realize its vision. We were able to assist Columbia with programmatic decisions that accommodated the budget while not compromising the overall goals through:
- constructability analysis
- value management recommendations
- budget and schedule updates
- clash detection and verification of the unique dimensioning and geometry of the façade utilizing the 3D model
