Open Lines of Communication
As construction began, the Structure Tone organization became the “voice at the table” and helped the Jackie Robinson Foundation staff understand both the terminology and the day-to-day nuances of construction. The client commented that this project was “all about the details—it is important that we all speak the same language,” especially when it came to the finishes and the overall look to the space. The ongoing cooperative dialogue before and during construction translated into the spacious and open floor plan, reflecting the process that was followed to get to the final product.
Open Design for Communication
The 14,000sf headquarters for the Foundation is a testament to modern and multi-functional design, while capturing the history of Mr. Robinson’s life. The new space boasts light-filled glass fronted offices, a large conference room that can be divided in two and a large reception area. The new facility allows for impromptu events that were impossible to host in the previous location and boasts two lounge-type breakout rooms that foster the conversational atmosphere and a place where Jackie Robinson scholars come to study. According to staff, there was a definite adjustment as management personnel were previously in closed offices. Staff became accustomed to the glass walls and sliding doors, and the organization attributes these features to better communication among staff.
