Constructing the Athletic Center

As part of the centennial celebration of Saint Joseph's basketball, the University officially dedicated the Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena, the newly renovated and expanded athletic center constructed by our firm. Completed in three phases the project entailed the:

  • addition of a new 24,000sf wing to the existing field house for locker rooms, offices, study rooms for both men’s and women’s basketball teams and a new Athletic Hall of Fame
  • upgrade, renovation and addition a new 16,000sf practice facility, as well as locker rooms and offices for soccer, lacrosse, track and cross country
  • renovation of the field house’s interior, construction of an upper-level concourse and the addition of 1,000 seats to the existing 3,200 seat arena, and a new central plant

Coordinating the Construction with the Athletic Schedule

The University runs a comprehensive athletics program with students participating in both Division I and intramural sports. The field house could not simply be closed for two-years during the renovation, portions needed to remain operational. The project was completed in multiple phases to accommodate the athletes, coaches and students of the University.

A detailed logistics plan and schedule were developed and presented to the University. Updates were provided regularly to keep all parties informed of the upcoming work, changes to the field house and next steps. Before each phase began the existing “tenants” were relocated to their temporary homes. Once the work was completed, they were returned to their new spaces.
