Getting in on the Ground Floor
Structure Tone was appointed to drive the complete design process, in conjunction with the enabling works. Major structural refurbishment of this 1950 reinforced concrete frame building included the construction of new floors above the existing sixth floor level. Serving as a new headquarters the 50,000sf, 10-floor building serves as a principal training and entertainment facility. The structure has a concrete frame, powder coated metal windows and an asphalt roof.
The building was originally constructed as two demises—both with its own access—which resulted in a difference in floor levels between the two spaces. To accommodate this construction, renovation included reconfiguration and extension of the main elevators shafts to form “walk-through” lifts with multi-stop additions.
The renovation, which encompassed 10 floors starting with the basement, included providing new curtain walling to the facade, increasing the size of the atrium by one floor and the size of the elevator shafts for new lifts, constructing new offices on the sixth floor roof, building out new auditorium seating in the basement and providing new mechanical and electrical systems and a new contemporary style fit-out throughout the building. Additional fit-out services included new study room, lounges, terraces, a rooftop cafe, and staff restaurant.
