Building the School of Business
Within a four-month period, 15,000sf of vacant space was constructed by Structure Tone into a high-end business setting that provides teachers and business students with a sophisticated learning environment. Construction began at the beginning of the spring semester while the building’s lower four floors remained fully active. The new environment features:
- business classrooms and a mock boardroom
- financial trading laboratory with nearly 30 trading positions
- a multi-purpose seminar room
- various faculty and staff offices
- an executive boardroom with teleconferencing capabilities
The 1,900sf trading laboratory features trading desks, a digital real-time ticker and two 54-inch audio/visual screens. State-of-the-art audio visual teaching aids including media desks and smart boards were also installed, as well as all new heating and cooling equipment.
Working Around the Students’ Schedules
Key elements—such as close collaboration; tight coordination; safety awareness; quality; and sensitivity to our client’s needs and expectations—allowed our team to excel over logistical and schedule challenges. Many of the noisiest activities, such as core drilling and mechanical tie-ins, were performed after classes or on weekends. Additionally, our team carefully coordinated the construction schedule with professors’ class schedules.
This project was delivered a full month ahead of schedule, which gave the school time to prepare for the grand opening of its new space. The school’s representatives were extremely happy with the speed of construction, our interface with the ongoing classes, the quality of the end product and our ability to work effectively in an occupied environment.
