Demolition and Fit-out
Structure Tone demolished and then rebuilt a 15,000sf data center within an existing facility. The project also entailed the interior fit-out of administrative workspaces and private offices, equipment room, a conference room and cafeteria. The equipment room involved the installation of 133 server cabinets, MDF, 144 port fiber terminations, UTP backbone, fiber trough and cable tray above and under access floor panels. The floor panels include 255 perforated tiles for airflow and 3,000 typical wood core access floor panels. Voice-over IP phone system support, biometric access control system and camera telephones were also installed within the data center for added security.
Project Challenges
The project was especially challenging—salvaging equipment and adding additional structural and MEP infrastructure support—within a compressed six month schedule. Portions of the original data center were reused and relocated within the space, including CRAC units and PMMs. A structural steel frame was installed on the roof to support a new triplex pump package, two dry coolers, and an expansion tank. Lastly, the fire alarm and sprinkler system were redesigned to support the new equipment.
