Design/Build Equaled Savings

For our first project on the Everest College campus, our firm completed construction of the training aide facility. This 7,000sf design/build project included build-out of:

  • new environments for electrician and HVAC training programs
  • classrooms
  • administrative offices
  • storage area

We relocated the HVAC and electrical training areas to the new space, which included 20 training modules for both trades. The HVAC stations were composed of return air plenums on heavy gauge metal stands. There were twin ducting between units vented through the roof, for a total of 10 roof penetrations. The training area also included natural gas connections and supply air ductwork sections.

The electrician’s lab was composed of one section for residential applications, with wood foundation and infrastructure, and one side for commercial applications with mostly metal stud infrastructure. There is a separate motor repair station, with innovative test light applications and a panel training area. This space includes emergency power-off “EPO” switches for student safety.

Perfect Permitting

A challenge during the permitting process was that this training facility incorporates functional building training aids. Thus, the building inspection division was very careful to define with our staff what components were allowed to be installed before the certificate of occupancy was issued. Through careful planning the permits were issued, and inspections passed without issue.
