Challenging Site Logistics
Working with Convent of the Sacred Heart for over three years, Structure Tone provided construction management services for various projects including:
- fire alarm system upgrades
- new wastewater treatment plant construction
- gymnasium renovation
- library and classroom building construction
- chapel renovation
Our most recent project was the construction the new 31,000sf library and classroom building and the renovation of the chapel. The new building and chapel renovation were located in the center of campus. Our staff coordinated closely with all team members and subcontractors for this new out-of-the-ground structure consisting of a concrete foundation, structural steel support system and masonry exterior with aluminum windows and a cabled roof with asphalt shingles. Work was conducted during regular daytime hours. However, deliveries were only brought to the site between 9am and 3pm to alleviate congestion on the single access road to the school's campus.
Safety First
With such a constricted site, safety was the first thing on the minds of all team members. Our team developed plans that allowed students and faculty to move safely and securely around the construction throughout the day. A covered bridge was constructed and temporary fencing protected the entire project site. The aggressive schedule was adjusted for the extension of the stair bulkhead which required significant structural steel work. All work was performed during a two-week window while students were on winter break so only essential school personnel were on site creating a safer work environment.
