Reflecting the Architecture of the Capitol and Local Resources
The exterior of the four-story steel structure reflects the architecture of the Texas State Capitol, with sunset red granite on the exterior and a copper dome roof. The structure covers the entire city block and includes a below-grade parking garage with capacity for 475 vehicles. The most impressive feature of the museum is the five-story domed rotunda enhanced with natural light from the above skylight. A granite-clad spiral stairway extends from the first floor up to the third providing visitors with a bird’s eye view of the 40ft diameter map of Texas and campfire scene composed of small terrazzo chips intricately inlayed in the main floor.
