A Flagship Store in Times Square
Our team masterfully coordinated around the clock work for 10 weeks in order to meet the store’s grand opening date. Structure Tone provided construction management services for Aeropostale’s new 18,000sf flagship store. Work involved construction of:
- retail space on levels one and two
- installation of two escalators and one elevator
- construction of storage space and restrooms on level C1
- addition of structural steel throughout
Open in Time for the Holiday Season
Coordination and efficient scheduling was key to the success of this project. The elevator pit, installed in C2 (cellar 2), was adjacent to the lobby and bathroom area of tenant next door, the Best Buy Theater. Seizing the opportunity after meetings with theater representatives, we installed the elevator pit during a 30-day window of no scheduled performances.
Also, the addition of a significant amount of structural steel and associated equipment was tightly scheduled in order to meet critical deadlines. We installed over 33-tons of steel. Due to the amount of steel, and sequence of work, there was a tremendous amount of shoring required, which affected flow of work.
The installation of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems required constant communication with the team. The complex process required maintaining ceilings heights despite the addition of steel required to support escalators and new elevator openings. Working with the design team and Aeropostale, we designated space for equipment that maximized ceiling heights to achieve wide open areas the client desired.
