Pfizer
New York, NY

For over ten years, Structure Tone has managed construction for Pfizer, one of the world’s largest research-based bio-medical and pharmaceutical companies, in both its New York and New Jersey offices. Projects have encompassed a range of work and include:

  • lab renovations at the New Jersey campus
  • data center expansion
  • office space construction and renovation at the company’s world headquarters building in New York City

Additionally, Structure Tone provided services for an emergency repair to the headquarters building’s façade, which included the removal and re-construction of the top two floors; the removal of masonry and installation structural steel for support; and the installation of new masonry walls, mullions, windows and louvers.

Lab Renovation

Our team performed extensive renovations for Pfizer’s formulation laboratory, Lab 308, at the New Jersey location. Construction was performed in an occupied building; therefore, safety for staff and employees was a major priority. Trades were carefully coordinated, proper signage was displayed and the site was closely monitored by our staff at all times. In addition to the construction of office space for the lab, key features of the project included:

  • installation of epoxy lab bench tops
  • removal of asbestos
  • installation of a new ceiling
  • installation of duct work

Data Center Expansion

With Structure Tone as construction manager, Pfizer’s data center was expanded without interruption to critical systems. Work for the data center included:

  • installation of a state-of-the-art command center where all services are monitored 24/7/365
  • modifications to the existing glycol system to add redundancy and versatility in an ever-changing environment
  • replacement of the existing chilled water cooling system and incorporation into the new glycol system
  • installation of a new 5kV substation to increase and diversify electrical service capacity

Also, a new UPS system was installed in order to provide additional power (kW) to existing PDUs that serve critical IT equipment within the newly expanded data center area. Additional cooling was installed as well to accommodate the additional data center heat load and newly constructed UPS-B Room.
