Medical Science Building
Infrastructure Upgrades

The medical science building (MSB) infrastructure project entails the installation of all new HVAC systems, and the largest air handling (AHU) unit on the NYU Medical campus. The AHU unit had multiple large ducts, 78- x 38-inches and 54- x 30-inches running down the exterior of the building to the levels below. The final AHU was so large in size, it required multiple designs be developed to evaluate and plan how the team would rig it to the roof safely. In addition to the installation of the AHU, we also installed new electrical components and new conduits both on the exterior of the building and throughout the interior of the facility. Three exhaust fans on the seventh and eighth floor roofs were relocated without the use of a crane.

Extensive site logistics plans for NYU were developed and modified weekly as necessary to find the correct crane locations and to ensure the safety of the contractors, pedestrians and traffic.

Student MSB Annex

In addition to the extensive infrastructure project at the MSB, Structure Tone also renovated the Student Annex on the ground floor. This area was in the middle of the main lounge, therefore the staging and traffic logistics needed to be addressed daily. Dust control was of very high importance due to the general requirement of the facility, but more importantly due to the ongoing operations on the floor above our work area. The existing ceilings, floor, wall furnishings and vending machines were removed and replaced. We also oversaw the installation of the new wireless connectivity and built a new storage room. The annex now features a movable partition to help secure the area.
