Tier III Data Center
For this project our firm constructed a 2,000sf Tier III data center within the existing 25,000sf Cavalier Telephone site to accommodate the client’s new IT equipment. Work on the data center began with the demolition and gutting of the existing space and removal of walls, ceiling material and carpet. Construction included the installation of 2N UPS distribution, a new generator, DX cooling, gaseous fire protection, IT racks, structured cabling and 40 cabinets. The project also required connections on the rooftop and an outdoor generator tank replacement. Special finishes included vapor barrier paint to protect the room and machinery against humidity, parabolic lighting to maximize light and minimize glare, HPL concrete raised flooring tile and vinyl wrapped ceiling tiles.
Uninterrupted Work
The site remained opened and occupied while work was being performed, requiring our team to build separation walls before beginning construction as well as using a separate contractor entrance. Sequenced delivery of materials was arranged so that they were on site only as required in order to minimize lay down space and not disturb existing operations. Equipment delivery and work that involved extensive noise was performed during off hours. In addition, all power shut-downs and cut-overs were performed on Saturday evenings to prevent any disruption to employees' work flow. Meeting the new power requirements necessitated that our team coordinate with PECO on the installation of the transformer and the provision of electrical service to the data center with no disturbance to facility’s functions.
