Providing complete preconstruction and construction services, Structure Tone was there to help Signature Theatre develop the best space possible in a new building. The new theatre consists of:
- two fully equipped, acoustically-sound black box theaters—350 seats and 99 seats
- three soundproof rehearsal halls
- state-of-the-art equipment and technical facilities
- theatrical lighting controlled by a master dimming system
- a grand staircase
- support offices
A critical issue was the logistics planning. We coordinated with the base building contractor while beginning to build-out the theater and installed the building system upgrades required by Signature. Structure Tone met all construction milestones and finished the project on schedule despite the late delivery of the base building.
Extension of the Client
A unique aspect of this project was that while the theatre was being constructed, several dinners were held on-site to honor major donors and show the work in progress. As the subcontractors were removing their equipment and power tools, the catering staff were rolling in tables and setting them with fine china and flowers. Coordination between Structure Tone, the base building contractor, design teams, theater staff and Arlington County was of utmost importance to ensure the success of these dinners. One of the most important collaborations was with County inspectors who worked closely with us to ensure the safety of dinner guests while not stalling progress toward meeting Signature’s critical opening night date.
