A 50 year old mixed-use warehouse becomes a storage facility for cutting edge technology. Structure Tone renovated the existing warehouse and added a pre-cast concrete structure to provide the additional room required. The 171,000sf structure consists of a 50,000sf Tier III+ data center; 30,000sf for ancillary printing and warehousing; 53,000sf of open plan administrative office space; and 38,000sf to house the data center infrastructure. Our construction management services earned us a Recognition Award by the Occupation Safety and Health Administration for Outstanding Performance.
Electrical System
Structure Tone replace the electrical systems of a 50 year old structure to a secure data center with 7x24 up time is not a small undertaking. Structure Tone was responsible for the coordination and installation of the following electrical changes:
- new 38kV incoming service with 5kV substation
- six 2500kV Caterpillar generators
- four substations
- six UPS rooms with associated battery rooms
- two paralleling gear rooms supporting the generators
Mechanical System
Just as important as the electrical system, the mechanical system is integral in maintaining the integrity of confidential material housed in the data center. Structure Tone oversaw the following changes to the mechanical systems:
- three 1200-ton electric centrifugal chillers and one 600-ton electric centrifugal chiller;
- four cooling towers
- 10 chilled water rooftop AHUs and three air cooled rooftop AHUs
- 87-20/30-ton CRAC units
- two plate and frame heat exchangers
- 30 exhaust fans
- two 30,000-gallon fuel oil tanks, fuel oil pumping station and pipe in pipe underground fuel oil distribution
