Our mission critical team was selected to provide a cosmetic company with expert construction management services for the critical power infrastructure upgrade and expansion of its data center. The amount of critical power infrastructure was increased by upgrading and expanding the existing emergency power plant. At the completion of the project, the facility will be considered a N+1, Tier IV data center.

Logistics

A key factor leading to the success of the project included the development, planning and understanding of intricate logistics plans. The installation of the emergency diesel fuel generator, the UPS and the high density coolant chillers was completed while the space remained up and running. This necessitated detailed coordination of equipment and delivery installation, as well as providing a safe construction site for workers and the client’s data center staff.

The new 4250kW emergency power plant is managed by a "parallel" switch board that was constructed while maintaining the existing EUP supply. Two 750kVA UPS plants were constructed to mirror the existing plants. A rooftop air-cooled condenser “farm” was also constructed. General operating procedures and task centric methods and procedures were developed during preconstruction and managed and executed on a daily basis to keep work on schedule.

Working in a "Live" Environment

Maintaining and keeping the existing data center and associated power sources online while constructing the new adjacent data center was a vital component of the project scope. Early in the preconstruction phase, carefully developed power source migration plans never left loads unprotected while the old emergency power plant was switched over to the new.
