Historic Restoration/Renovation
Our staff provided construction management services for the restoration of historic Bexar County Courthouse 225 District Courtroom and the Children’s Court. The Bexar County Courthouse is not only the largest courthouse in the state but also the oldest. A key concern for the restoration of this landmark building was the upgrade of the mechanical system in the courtroom. The critical path ran through the ceiling. The upgrade required that 40% of the plaster ceiling in the courtroom be removed for the installation of mechanical infrastructure. Our staff worked closely with the design team to rebuild and blend the new and old plaster ceilings together to create a monolithic look. The ornamental plaster molding in the ceiling was then painted and gold-leafed, maintaining the historic beauty of the courtroom.
CM in Occupied Spaces
While renovating 40,000sf on the third floor of the courthouse for the Children’s Court, our staff worked diligently to mitigate the construction noise so as to not interfere with trials and other daily activities in the courthouse. This mini complex includes courtrooms, drug testing laboratories and high security holding cells that provide the County with flexibility while being logistically practical. When very loud work needed to be conducted or the courthouse was particularly active, our staff worked with Bexar County representatives to schedule work after regular business hours.
